Jahrhundert bis heute in immer neuer Weise aufgegriffen und ausformuliert wurden, bemüht sich das Handbuch der Reformpädagogik in Deutschland (1890–1933) ausdrücklich um eine differenzierte historische Kontextualisierung. Die deutsche Reformpädagogik wird als kritische Reaktion auf den gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts im Deutschen Reich zu einem ersten Abschluss gekommenen Aufbau eines Systems pädagogischer Institutionen und Praktiken begriffen. Reformpädagogische Initiativen bündelten sich in unterschiedlichen gesellschaftlichen Kontexten; sie entwickelten und erprobten eine Vielzahl produktiver Ideen, Konzepte und Modelle und bestimmten den pädagogischen Diskurs bis 1933 wesentlich mit. Auf der Grundlage zahlreicher lokalgeschichtlicher, biographischer und problemgeschichtlicher Untersuchungen, die in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten entstanden sind, unternimmt diese zweiteilige Publikation den Versuch, das derzeitige Wissen zu zentralen Aspekten der historischen Reformpädagogik zusammenzufassen und in neuartiger Weise zu systematisieren. Gegenüber oberflächlichen Vereinheitlichungen wird die Vielfalt und Widersprüchlichkeit der historischen Reformpädagogik und zugleich die Notwendigkeit einer kritischen Vergegenwärtigung betont. |
